Since resolutions seem to fail for most people, I set SMART goals each year. In an effort to maintain focus I only set two goals this year and both were related to health. Now that the first quarter is over, it’s time to measure progress and adjust accordingly.
Weight Loss Goal
The goal I set was: Lose 40 pounds this year and 15 pounds the first quarter.
Mission accomplished as I had lost 17 pounds as of my last March weigh-in. My goal for the second quarter is to lose 10 additional pounds for a total loss of 27 pounds by June 30th.
To get there I’ll continue on Weight Watchers and eating a plant-based diet.
Exercise Goal
My goal to exercise regularly was the harder of the too. I don’t naturally like to exercise. However, I know how important it is to good health so I’m all in.
The goal was: Exercise 4-5 times a week for 30 minutes minimum.
I can say this one is a success as well. I didn’t do the half marathon training or like Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. It was a journey to find the right exercise but pilates fit the bill, at least for now. I’m taking two 50 minute classes a week and we’re walking 3-4 times a week.
This goal is being revised for the second quarter to 250 minutes of exercise a week minimum by the end of the quarter.
I’ll continue sharing weigh-in results weekly and along with activity plans. Success feels and looks good. How are you doing with your 2013 goals?

Great work. Sounds like you’re well on your way. I would hope your numbers factor in that things will likely slow down in terms of how much you can lose, as the most comes off in the beginning. As long as you have a realistic plan with milestones along the way that you can meet, you should be great in terms of continuing to head in the right direction. Good luck the rest of the way!
