2018 Goals: First Quarter Update

KayLynn · April 3, 2018 · Leave a Comment

At the beginning of the year I set goals in three categories of life: health, wealth and travel (not coincidentally the name of this blog!).  Now that the first quarter of the year is over, it’s time to check progress and adjust if needed.

HEALTH

Weight Loss –  Grade: F. I’ve been a big fail in this category so far.  I restarted Nutrisystem and although I love the convenience, got very tired of the food.

My plan to change course has started with joining Weight Watchers late last month.  So far I really like their newish Freestyle plan.

Exercise – Grade F. Another big fail (so far I’m not doing good).  I have been struggling with figuring out what exercise program is the right one balancing interest and price.

This is changing this quarter and I’ll be starting to attend Jazzercise this week.

Hobbies – Grade A. I’m still actively participating in my two book clubs and enjoy them more every month as friendships develop.  The second half of this goal was to blog more and I’ve made sure to blog at least once a week these past two months.

WEALTH

Roth IRA – Grade A. I divided the maximum contribution allowed in 2018 for my age by twelve and made that deposit every month.  Everything is on track to meet this goal at the end of the year.

401K – Grade A. I’m contributing 1/12th of the maximum allowed for my age each month and all is on track.

Spending – Grade B. January’s no spend month was a success and I’m tracking my spending more closely.  It’s a constant work in progress but going well so far.

TRAVEL

Other than business travel, none of my planned trips are in the first four months of this year.

Greek Isles Cruise – Grade I (Incomplete).  This trip is coming up so I’ll be finalizing plans and buying anything new we need.

Grandkids Visit – Grade I . All our hotel and flight plans are in place to visit our two youngest grandchildren.  We’re looking forward to hugs and kisses in person.

Kids Cruise – Grade I. The last kid’s cruise is towards the end of the year so this will be incomplete for a while.  I’ll make excursion plans as the year proceeds but have ideas!

Overall, I’m happy with my progress except for the first two goals.  I’ll share the results of my adjustments and further progress at end of this quarter.  How are you doing with your 2018 goals?
