I haven’t posted lately and you might be wondering. Did she give up? Is she off plan? The answers are no and sometimes. But I do owe you an explanation of what’s been going on.
Dealing with An Injury
I’ve had a setback with my walking. Pain in the back of my right heel and Achilles area had become unbearable. I took two weeks off and it felt better. I wasn’t hobbling after getting out of bed in the morning. Just to make sure I was wearing the right shoes, I went to Road Runner Sports and had the Shoe Dog analysis.
The analysis (after using a lot of cool technology) was that I had an imbalance (more weight on my left than right leg) and my right step collapsed in while the left one didn’t. They customized inserts based on these problems and I got new shoes.
My husband and I tested them out last Sunday with a 30 minute walk. I felt great afterward and the pain wasn’t any worse the next day. Then we walked for 45 minutes on Wednesday and it was a different story.
Needless to say here I am three days later still in worse pain than before the walk. It’s depressing and I wonder if this will ever get better.
Following the Plan
I’ve been on plan half the time since my last weigh in but that doesn’t make for good weight loss. I need to go to a meeting and get my head in the game. Two meetings were missed due to travel and one due to the 4th of July holiday. I have no excuse for the other ones.
So I’m making a commitment to myself to get to my meeting this Wednesday. I will also keep up with my stretching exercises for Piriformis syndrome (yes that is probably contributing to my heel pain if not the cause).
If I can do that, then maybe I can find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the leg situation to resolve. I just have to remember getting healthy is a process and a journey; not a race and it doesn’t end when I get I get there. How have you dealt with setbacks?
