Today is my first time at La Romana but we don’t arrive until after 11 am. Woke up to the sun rising shortly after 6 am.
I had coffee and caught up on my notes.
Sister T and I decided to eat at the lido.
The beans were hers I think but I did also have oatmeal today.
After breakfast we couldn’t get back into our cabin. Neither key worked. We went to guest services and they reprinted the key but also called our room steward. He checked and his key wouldn’t work either so the technician came and changed the battery in the door.
Sister T saw the casino host this morning and was gifted shore excursion tickets for an all-inclusive in Amber Cove port. Wonderful! The day got better.
We arrived at La Romana early and got off about 11 am.
We were going to visit the shops an get back on.
I decided to listen to my voice mail messages since I had cell signal here (couldn’t get bars in curacao or Aruba). Here’s where the day became exciting.
Unexpected Surprise
I had a voice mail message from the builder sales agent at Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach. We were picked for a lot to build our forever home.
I was so excited and panicked at the same time. It was like I didn’t know how to do anything for a few minutes. I found her phone number in an old email and sister T gave me a pen and paper to write it on. Then I couldn’t figure out how to call from the Dominican Republic (turns out same as in US). I called and left voice mail then called my realtor rep who said he’d call her and get back to me.
He called back in a couple of minutes and said yes we were picked for a lot and confirmed the price for the home, price for the lot and the estimated completion date. Did I want to confirm it? Uh, Hell yes!
He called her and then right back to ask me if I could email copies of our drivers license and when would I be back in the country. The Minto agent will call me Monday when I’m back home. Then I finally called my husband afterwards and told him we were moving to Daytona Beach. He was just as stunned as me as we had no indication the homes were being released this week.
I found map of the community and screenshotted our lot and sent to Steve. All day we were texting each other plans, thoughts and just feeling blessed.
We did get through the shops at the ports and there was some very nice artwork being sold. Unfortunately I don’t want to get anything until settled. Sister T didn’t find anything either and was amazingly patient with my distraction.
Afternoon Aboard
It was hot and we got back onboard for lunch where we ate at Mongolian Wok. We started with the salad.
And also had fried wonton chips.
This time I got the Thai BBQ sauce with my chicken stir fry and it was good. Just a hint of spiciness.
We both drank a lot of water to get rehydrated. Then it was downstairs for dessert starting with coffee gelato.
This went with the black forest cake.
In our cabin we had chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne courtesy of guest services delivered.
I chilled the bottle so we could take to dinner.
Evening Aboard
The menu didn’t have many entrees that excited us tonight.
I started with the Michigan pasty (very good).
Then came the tom kha gai soup. The waiter warned me it was spicy but I thought it’d be like my sauce at lunch. uh, no. It was super spicy so I couldn’t eat it. He kindly replaced it with the potato cheese soup.
Sister T had the BLT salad. Then we both had turkey as did the lady at the next table.
None of us liked the turkey meat. I did like the rest of the plate though.
For dessert I went with Boston cream cake and Sister T had the cheese plate.
We enjoyed about half the bottle of champagne.
We offered to share with the couple next to us who are very nice but they declined. I decided to skip the show tonight as I saw it recently on the Vista but did enjoy the Sunny Girls Trio (in Halloween costumes) for a bit.
Then it was back to the cabin where I found a bear in my cabin!
