Upon waking today I noticed a lot of movement on the ship. When walking to the Ocean View Cafe for coffee and ultimately breakfast it was chilly and wet from rain in the pool area.
We couldn’t get a bar waiter at breakfast so I could ask for tomato juice. The juice from the machine was way too concentrated for us both (apple and orange respectively).
After a stop at Cafe Al Bacio for a latte, I decided to relax in the cabin. Captain Kate made an announcement at 9:15 that the seas were so rough they were closing the outside decks today. She also cancelled the talk she had scheduled.
Later in the morning we heard of more cancellations of events today. They were mainly poolside ones and I assume the outdoor movies.
I happened by a sale in the emporium shops and bought five shirts. Many of the tshirts were just $5. They were selling out their Caribbean stock.
When dropping my package at the cabin I saw that we had luggage tags for group 31. It seems to be the group going to the Amtrak station. Hmmm. I’ll need to take care of that but first, it’s time for the Top Chef contest.
It was fun and I admire the volunteers for putting themselves out there!
We met at the main dining room for lunch.
I didn’t care for any of the appetizers or desserts. So I just had the shrimp pad Thai.
Steve had the fried chicken and key lime pie.
I then joined the long line at guest relations. It moved very slowly and after 20 minutes it was my turn. It turns out we did have the wrong tags and I was given 21 which was for Newark later flights (after 1:30 pm). The original person entered our transfers as to the train station. They’re the same price so I didn’t notice (AND they don’t give you actual tickets).
We then went to the room to pack, relax and while the time away. The sea was very rough and our cabin is making all kinds of strange noises with the movement so not much sleeping was had.
We had pre-dinner cocktails at the rendezvous lounge. No snacks in the lounge tonight so I was going to hit dinner very hungry. I love that elderflower blush!
We then went to the dining room a few minutes early. It made no difference as our waiter was late. He was getting off the ship in the morning with his wife who also works on board and they were making arrangements?
I had the spinach turnover..
and chopped salad for appetizers.
Steve had the shrimp cocktail and gumbo soup. For entree, I was torn between the turkey dinner or steak Diane . Steak won out.
Frankly it seemed like the everyday sirloin with a sauce. Steve had the veal cordon bleu and liked it.
I had the ganache cake with peanut butter ice cream to top it all off.
That ice cream was so good. Steve had cheesecake with strawberry sauce.
We went for one last cocktail in the rendezvous lounge. As it happens they were starting the Are you Smarter than a ship’s officer game so I signed up an ad made it. It was fun although we really should have won; the person writing down the answers in the last round had unreadable writing so our answers were disallowed.
Afterwards, we went to our room and put the bags out.
We read for a while and turned in as tomorrow will be a long day.
