It’s only been two days since I got off the Koningsdam and here I was leaving for Orlando for a Disney Parks and Cruise vacation.
Travel Day
Alaska Airlines offers the only nonstop to Orlando from San Diego. I still have credit from canceled pre-pandemic trips so booked this trip using those.
In an effort to travel lighter (and since the trip was 6 days) I packed a carryon only. We’ll see how that works out!
I also had the pleasant surprise of not having to be at the airport too early. This flight leaves at 8 am. Once through security, I picked up my breakfast somewhere different. I got a bagel sandwich (and water) at Artisan Market.
The flight was late taking off (although we left the gate on time) due to the weather. They were having other flights land opposite of usual and this delayed flights taking off.
Otherwise the flight was uneventful although packed. There were a lot of kids onboard because of the destination as well even though it’s not Spring break in San Diego.
Orlando Evening
I ordered an Uber (cheaper than Lyft) and was surprised at the fees. An 18% booking fee? Crazy but the driver was nice and got me safely to Tuscany Village.
The gate guard was a little overzealous and wouldn’t let us through until I told him the room number of my DIL which I didn’t have as she was meeting me at the reception desk. Once I gave him the number he didn’t even verify it, just let us through. Sigh!
The resort was beautiful and has a very nice pool and water pond. We got to building 5 where her unit is and dropped my luggage before heading out for dinner.
We decided on Carraba’s Italian Grill and walked to the ride-share pick up area. Once dropped off we got our names on the list and it took well over an hour to be seated. Fortunately the rain held off until we were seated and it was pleasant sitting outside.
There were plenty of empty tables but unfortunately as with a lot of businesses not enough staff to fill them. Once seated we were ready for cocktails (the adults anyway) and I had the blackberry sangria (very good).
We learned that they were out of chicken (except for items that were pre-prepped like kids chicken fingers). So that changed my order. We were all three pretty hungry by this point (it’s 9 pm) and the bread went quickly. We got another. 🙂
I ordered the lasagna which came with soup or house salad. The salad was good.
I also enjoyed the lasagna very much.
Then we had a short wait for a ride-share back to the resort. It was raining by this time but we were able to wait inside the foyer. It was lights out after a long day not to long after we got back.
