You might have noticed I didn’t provide a Nutrisystem update last week. There were a couple of things going personally that derailed me. I was battling dental issues that resulted in last Friday’s root canal which was the first punch and not the last.
My aunt, who we thought had successfully battled cancer, was given the news it was terminal. It got worse within a very short time when she had to be admitted to hospice. This hit me hard and I couldn’t battle emotional eating after this second punch.
Taking care of the first issue has given me the internal strength to get back on the healthy living bandwagon. I started yesterday by tracking everything I ate even though it was a day of celebration.
We started the day with a skinny latte like every other Sunday followed by a free slam at Denny’s. For lunch, we joined my husband’s brother and his wife at a steakhouse.
This spinach salad was delicious and you can see I downed my first diet coke in two months! The salad was followed by prime rib with baked potato and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I enjoyed every bite of this special occasion treat!
This birthday girl was happy and grateful for such a wonderful day and refreshed for life’s challenges. If you have a prayer list, I’d appreciate you adding my aunt.
As my three months of following the Nutrisystem D plan comes to and end next week, I’ll update you with thoughts and weight loss results.
If you missed any of my earlier updates just click the Nutrisystem link on the menu bar at the top of the website. Check out the photos I post throughout the week on Twitter and Instagram. If you’re interested in joining me you can join Nutrisystem online or by calling (800) 321-THIN.
Disclosure: Nutrisystem is providing me with the meal plan in exchange for blogging about my journey with no other compensation. All opinions expressed are 100% mine.

Kitty says
I am sorry to hear of the rough time you’ve had and the sad news on your aunt.
My husband often orders the fit slam at Denny’s and really enjoys it.
Kay Lynn says
Thank you so much Kitty. I love that Fit Slam and we really got to get to Denny’s more often; its just a short 1 mile walk from our front door.
Denise @ Do you have that in my size??? says
Dealing with emotional and physical upheaval without turning to food is a skill that takes time to develop. I think about it like strength training: muscles don’t develop overnight and neither does finding and using healthy coping mechanisms when life throws us curveballs. I’m doing better with it now than in the past but I know it will be something I struggle with for the rest of my life.
Cancer takes such a horrible toll on everyone involved – your aunt and your whole family are in my prayers.
Kay Lynn says
Thanks, Denise. Thank you for letting me know I can’t be perfect…yet. I didn’t do much damage and for that I’m grateful.
Visiting my aunt has been therapeutic as we share memories from years (decades really) ago.
Khaleef @ Fat Guy, Skinny Wallet says
Sorry that your family is dealing with the news about your aunt. I will be praying for her and your family.
I’ll definitely be following along to see if you decide to stick with the program or move on.
Kay Lynn says
Thank you, Khaleef. It makes me so mad that this happened to her and having lost my mom I know how hard it will be for my cousin who is an only child.
