I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed the past two weeks. The result is not exercising or posting here enough. I took on too many commitments and have to get through them all before it gets back to normal. I think this weekend will get most of it knocked out.
I’m glad it’s Friday and time to share what’s been on my mind (besides the overscheduling) this past week.
Fires
I’m sure you’ve heard about the wildfires here in San Diego county. They’re all in North county…which is where we live! Fortunately, we’re spared from evacuation this time (spend 3 days evacuated in 2007) but too many of our friends and coworkers have had inconveniences.
My heart goes out to those that lost their homes and of course, to the family of the one person who lost their life.
Fitbloggin ’14
Fitbloggin’ 14 is coming up next month and I’m getting pretty excited. Not only is there great content but just as important is the networking with the awesome attendees. Man V. Fat has published his first issue which includes a conference page listing the attendees. Check out their awesome blogs!
Super Cat Saves a Boy
Just in case you’ve been avoiding the media the last week, here’s a feel good story. This amazing cat, Tara, saves her four year old human boy from a dog attack. Love it! By the way, my cats are totally in charge at our house. Charger defers to them every time.
A First with Spaghetti Squash
I’ve heard about spaghetti squash as a good pasta substitute for several years but was a bit afraid to try it. I finally broke down and bought one this past weekend.
I made a spaghetti squash pie filled with ground turkey, ricotta cheese, tomatoes and spices. It was very good but too heavy on the tomatoes. I will mix in other veggies next time. Sorry, there are no pictures but I didn’t even think about it until after we started eating!
Sneaky Portion Sizes
My husband and I were both fooled by portion sizes this past week. I bought some gluten-free muffins and checked the nutritional information and saw a serving was 150 calories. It never occurred to me that the serving was only half the muffin.
These were normal sized muffins so it’s unlikely that someone would only eat half!
Then my husband bought himself a pint of Ben & Jerry’s as a treat when the temperature soared above 100 degrees. He thought it was two servings. Nope, the nutritional information was for 1/4 of the pint. We are going to have to increase our diligence. Have you ever had a portion surprise?
That’s it for this week. What’s been going on with you?
