My office offers flu shots for employees in our office one day every Fall. This year I was in Atlanta with Melrose that day attending the Type-A Parent conference. I had to look for other options to get the vaccination because I don’t have time to get sick!
We met the MinuteClinic team at the conference and they offered me a free flu shot at the MinuteClinic.
About the MinuteClinic and Flu Shots
Did you know that select CVS/pharmacy stores have a medical walk in clinic inside? These MinuteClinics are staffed by certified family nurse practitioners and physician assistants seven days a week and no appointments are necessary.
They provide treatment for common family illnesses and injuries, administer vaccinations, conduct physicals and wellness screenings and offer monitoring for chronic conditions and accept most insurance plans.
I headed over there after work one evening to get my flu shot. No matter how much I eat right, exercise and get lots of rest it is not better than the immunity from the flu shot.
You can’t get the flu from the shot as it’s made from an inactivated flu virus. It’s important to get the flu vaccine every year because new strains appear each year and we lose immunity to it over time even if it a strain repeats.
Getting My Flu Vaccine at MinuteClinic
The first thing I did when getting to the MinuteClinic inside my local CVS store was sign in at the easy to use kiosk. The navigation through each screen was easy and intuitive and in no time I was on the list to be seen.
There were two names in front of mine so we headed over to a neighboring store on another errand for a few minutes. When I got back the nurse was already on my name!
She confirmed a few key pieces of information and before you knew it I had my shot and was on my way. MinuteClinic certainly lived up to its name!
It’s not too late for you and your family to get their seasonal flu shots. The season typically peaks in January or February but can occur as late as May. The sooner you get the shot the better since it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take effect. Have you gotten your flu vaccine this year?
Disclosure: I was provided a voucher for a free flu vaccination. All opinions expressed are 100% mine. This post was originally published at Two Savvy Sisters which is no longer active.
