It’s 2018! It felt like 2017 went by so fast.
For many of us, it’s a time of reflection and planning for the new year. I have done some thinking along those lines as well. Since I focus on Health, Wealth and Travel here, I’ve organized my goals and plans in those categories.
Health
Weight Loss – This has been a goal of mine every year that I’ve blogged (over 10). I need to lose about 40 pounds (again!) and am starting then year on Nutrisystem.
Exercise – I know this needs to be a part of my life for good health; I just am not a fan! Having said that, my office is moving to a complex with FREE gym and classes so I will partake.
Hobbies – I joined two book clubs this past year and really enjoy them. I’m continuing with these in 2018. Another goal is to blog more here. In 2017, I only did trip recaps. This year I want to write about about topics in life and do it more regularly.
Wealth
Every year retirement gets closer so I need to continue my focus on saving.
Roth IRA – When I first opened this account I was buying stocks I liked for my Roth IRA and since the amount was so little, it didn’t matter if it went up or down. After three years, it’s grown enough I need to do more research for my selections. Again, I will donate the max I can.
401K – My current 401K and rollover account are invested with and/or managed so no work here except to continue contributing the maximum allowed this year.
Spending – January is a no spend month so I can buy off the balance of holiday and vacation spending. This means not buying anything other than essentials (food, gas, bills) until at least February 1st — no matter how good a deal!
Travel
We have three trips planned for this year and I’m really looking forward to all. Plus there will be work travel in the mix; in fact a business trip is coming up later this month.
Greek Isles Cruise – This is the longest trip we’ll be taking in 2018. The cruise leaves from the port near Rome and it is a 10 night one. It has five Greek ports and two Italian stops. You’ll hear more about this as we get closer to the trip.
Grandkids Visit – This summer we’ll travel East to visit two grandsons and by then, a great-granddaughter. We can’t wait although I won’t enjoy the heat and humidity.
Kids Cruise – The cruise with the last of our five kids will be in the Fall. We’re taking them on Norwegian and it will be interesting to see how much I like this brand on a US departure; we had such a great time on the Epic last spring.
I’m sure the year will bring unexpected events but I’m hoping 2018 is just as good personally and much better for our country and world.
