My thanksgiving holiday is officially over. I returned yesterday (it was 2 am by the time I got home) from a long Thanksgiving weekend spent with my son and his girlfriend (I’ll call her GF) in Florida. After the Thanksgiving 5K my husband and I walked I had a late morning flight and headed off to the East. Both of them worked that day so there was no need to actually be there on Thursday.
Traveling was pretty easy although long. I was lucky enough to get TSA precheck which meant breezing through security both ways. I had passes about to expire for the United Club so I relaxed there and watched the early Thursday football game while waiting until boarding time. Oh and enjoyed some snacks.
I had aisle seats and nice seatmates so the flights were comfortable as could be when 100% full. After watching Iron Man 3 and The Way, Way Back movies it was time to land. I stayed in a hotel since it was late at night and I had a 3 hour drive the next morning. ( I flew into an airport 150 miles away to save money; not sure it was worth it!)
After I arrived we went for an hour walk and I got to see the beautiful views of the nearby river and islands. Since our Thanksgiving meal was scheduled for Saturday, we relaxed the rest of the day and capped it off with dinner out for Cuban food.
It was delicious and cheap! I had ropa vieja, black beans with white rice and plantains. My appetizer was croquetas. Yummy.
My granddog, Leesha, was happy to see me and walked with us both days. GF made a wonderful Thanksgiving feast. My only contribution was the cranberries.
We had delicious pumpkin pie for dessert.
The next day my son worked so GF and I toured the fire station. It was interesting to see the work and living space they have for the 24 hour shifts.
We then headed over to nearby 55+ active living community to tour it. It was interesting to see the amenities and different home options. My husband and I will have to spend a couple of weeks touring communities when we get closer to officially retiring.
The next day was time to go home and another long day of travels. Yes, I’m tired and will probably drag all week, but spending time with son and GF was priceless and well worth this inconvenience.
How was your Thanksgiving weekend?

Sounds like you had a wonderful and very active Thanksgiving weekend with your son and his GF. Love the photo of the grand dog. Good luck with your decision about next steps for further retirement regardless of when that will be.

I know those snacks, we had them en route to India at the club! 😉 That Cuban meal looks delicious and since it’s the food that I paid most attention to, I’d better go have b’fast!

Carol, thanks so much for commenting. Hopefully you know I’m a fan of your blog. I’m attracted to food photos even when I’m not hungry (must be why my blog is named weight chronicles, haha).

It sounds like you had a jam-packed weekend – and your granddoggy is adorable. Mine was busy too, with a houseful for the weekend and lots of food. To be honest I was relieved when it was over, even though we had a great time!

Sharon, glad to hear you had a great weekend too. We did have enough relaxing time when in Florida; just the travel days were horrible!
