Today the Mariner of the Seas is finally hitting a port on this sailing — Nassau. Here’s the sailing map as of this morning. We really haven’t gone much of anywhere.
We’re there early (7 am) and my group is meeting at 8:30 so I was glad to have gotten to bed early.
Nassau Morning
I was up, dressed and out the door by 6 am. At the promenade for coffee, I noticed fewer people up early today.
We’re making lemons out of lemonade by going to Junkanoo Beach. There are eight of us. But first breakfast. Because we’re meeting at 8:30 and the MDR breakfast wasn’t until 7:30, I went to the windjammer. I had a bacon and cheese omelet made to order along with baked beans and a hash brown patty.
It was good but not as nice as MDR dining. We were at our meeting place early but got a later start than planned because one friend’s photo was transposed with her roommate in the Royal system (which they didn’t know because it was our only port).
It was an easy walk to the beach and we stopped for a Margaritaville photo opp.
Also snapped a pic of this lovely flower sculpture along the way. I couldn’t find any information about it online.
We got to Junkaroo Beach after 15-20 minutes walking at a leisurely pace.
MK negotiated a package (7 chairs, 1 umbrella, and a special rate on beer) for the group.
We first were all in a row but then he put the chairs in a circle so we could all talk and it’s so much fun. We went in the water for a bit, laughed, talked and some even drank. I was saving myself for later, lol.
Two went back around noon.
Nassau Afternoon
For lunch, it was a mess getting food. It took a full hour for the food and then when we got it mine was cold and the conch burger was awful!
Oh well! Thankfully S had brought snacks. Two others ordered sandwiches later and they got their food right. A couple of others left at this point but I stayed to help the last two get navigate back.
Our lesson was to order food directly from the source (the runners were adding on a big surcharge) and get prices upfront. The price on the menu wasn’t the final price (after taxes and gratuity).
When the last 3 of us were ready to go back to the ship, a taxi driver offered us a ride back for $5 each. Yes please! It was a wonderful beach day with my friends. I found this monkey in my room when I got back.
These terrible things also showed up!
I showered and then went to the group’s event. It was a bit too much touchy-feely for me so I left halfway through and found a bar — my favorite The Bamboo Room. I met some nice GITH there and my roomie found me there when it was time to head to dinner.
Tonight I had the delicious mojito.
Nassau Evening
While at dinner one of my beach circle friends found me to let me know another one in the group had a medical issue and was in the infirmary. It was shocking because we’d spent the day together and all was well.
Other than this terrible news, the dinner was good with a new group from the last 3 nights. It was Italian menu.
I started with Minestrone.
My entree was the lasagna.
Then I had the hazelnut cake for dessert.
F urtonuately our waiter brought ice cream to cut the richness of the chocolate. The entire meal was delicious!
During dinner the waiter spilled a drink on the back of D’s dress and chair. Fortunately it dried quickly. I don’t remember if that was before or after the captain visited our table. Yes, he visited each and every table in our group!
Very charming man. Probably wanted to see the group that was requiring two medical evacuations, lol. I went back to the cabin after dinner and tried to reach K’s daughter through ear phone. I left a message and sent a text asking if I can help in any way.
Then I packed. Not long after K’s daughter called me and gave me an update and said I needed to make the trivia reservation tomorrow. Yes, I will. It’s funny that all I wanted to know was she was alright and she wanted to make sure we didn’t miss trivia next week. Love her!
I stayed in the cabin and finished the book I’d been reading this cruise. Then went for my evening ginger ale before heading back to the cabin for the night. It’ll be an early morning tomorrow.
