I didn’t have to wait long for my next vacation after leaving the Koningsdam. Two days later I’m heading to Orlando for a Disney week. The main driver for taking this trip is who I’m going with.
Family
One of the friends and family we visited in last summer’s road trip was my grandson and his mom in Memphis. While there she invited me to join them on their Disney trip in March 2022. Feeling the freedom of retirement (and not having to worry about vacation days in the bank) I enthusiastically said yes!
We have visited each other many times since they moved to Memphis area from San Diego a decade earlier but this is our first shared vacation.
Disney Plans
They are going to visit the Disney Parks for a week but I wasn’t up to that (and couldn’t be there for the first part anyway due to my Koningsdam trip). My DIL used her Hilton Vacation membership to book a one bedroom suite at Hilton Grand Vacations Club Tuscany Village Orlando.
I planned to fly in on Tuesday spending three nights with them using the sleeper couch for my bed. The two parks I’ve never been too in Orlando are Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom so she worked the schedule and made reservations to go to those during my stay.
Disney Cruise Itinerary
After two days in the parks we are taking a Disney cruise! This is one of the North America cruise lines I’ve never sailed (MSC Cruises is another) largely due to price. With three in a room, the sticker shock wasn’t as large.
The three night cruise is on the Disney Dream which was built in 2011. We originally had an ocean view cabin but was able to upgrade to a balcony cabin a couple of months before sailing due to a military rate that became available and still get some money back.
There won’t be a lot of time to enjoy the ship with both full days being in port. Our first port is Nassau and the second is their private island, Castaway Cay.
