Today the Nieuw Statendam visits my favorite island which is Half Moon Cay.
Half Moon Cay Morning
We had breakfast in the lido. I decided to have waffle and ham today.
When getting ready for the day I noticed the toothpaste I’d been using all week is athlete’s foot cream. I had packed it thinking it was one of the small tubes of toothpaste and never read the label. No wonder it tasted soo bad!
The seas are a little rough so I am worried we wouldn’t make it. Right then the captain came on the intercom saying the ferry from a near by island where workers live couldn’t make the journey due to rough seas so shore excursions were cancelled. He said he’s trying to position the ship so the tenders could run and he’d update us.
We can see it but so far away! I decided to go the pool and get a lounger in case it didn’t happen. I found a padded lounger by the main pool. Eventually we got an announcement that we could tender over but they were going to use the tender ticket system. Cabanas, and clam shells were still going to be available.
My brother had reserved a clam shell so we decided to go ashore. I got tender tickets when available. We were gray 27.
It wasn’t too long before we were called and got on the tender. Once it filled up we took off.
Half Moon Cay
Once on the island, we checked in at the water sports shack. I took a photo of the ship from the beach before it got too busy.
Then we walked until we found an open clamshell and claimed it.
Its the one on the right and I had a nice view to the water. At least I did until a couple put their chairs in front of us.
The water was a little cool when you first get in but I got easily acclimated. I saw a school of silver fish with black.
Shortly after 11 am, we headed to the BBQ. I had fish, salads and a carrot cake cupcake with water to drink.
It’s the best private island lunch around. I went into the water one more time and after drying off a while, went back to the tender.
Final Afternoon and Evening
Once onboard, I showered and then went up and had a little bit more lunch in the buffet while enjoying the island view.
that I finished off with a gelato cone ($2) of strawberry and chocolate chip mint.
Before going to dinner, I packed everything but what I was going to wear for the evening.
I started with the jerked chicken egg roll.
It was very good! I decided to try the french onion soup.
It wasn’t warm enough but had plenty of onions and flavor. I went against our waiter’s recommendation of sweet and sour shrimp but when I saw our neighbor’s wish I hadn’t. Instead I had the New York strip loin steak with a sub of baked potato instead of fries.
It was good but a bit tough. Dessert was the double chocolate tart which I didn’t care for tonight.
After dinner I went to the ocean bar and used the second Mariner cocktail voucher while chatting with four ladies that sailed together to celebrate their 60th birthdays Then it was back to the cabin to change into my pajamas so I could get the suitcase closed up and out the door.
