Today the Norwegian Epic visits Curacao. Our port hours are 7 am – 2 pm so it’s a short and early day.
Curacao Morning
I was up at 5 am and enjoyed lounge coffee while journaling and reading the news online.
Later I went to taste for breakfast. To start I had a Bloody Mary which wasn’t very good.
Too much vodka and ice instead. Once again I had the daily special which was loaded hash browns.
The hash brown rounds had onion, corned beef, bacon and cheeese on top with a perfectly cooked sunny side up egg on top.
I had english muffin on the side. Afterwards I took my wet towel from yesterday to the towel shack and turned it in. I still have one.
Curacao Excursion
I’m excited to do something different in Curacao today after many port stops here in the past. We’re all three taking the Hato Caves and Ostrich Farm excursion through Norwegian.
C texted me when she and A went to breakfast and I found them up on 15. I headed off the ship when it was time for us to be at the bus. After checking in, I said my two family members were on their way.
While waiting I got this great picture of the ship.
It was very windy this morning. The bus left a couple of minutes late but our group wasn’t the last to board. The lady I sat next to on the bus moved her bag from the seat only when I insisted I was sitting there. Then she still had it partially in my seat so I was very uncomfortable but no other options.
Ostrich Farm
Once at the Ostrich farm we headed to another bus for the tour. You could see the farm was a shadow of its former self pre-covid. There were lots of empty pens and the guide said they’re not selling ostrich meat now because they have to build back up the stock.
There were also emus in one pen. We had a stop where we could get a photo taken feeding the ostriches.
Across from the pen was a pen of pigs.
Back at the starting point we had the chance to stand on an actual ostrich egg.
It can withstand 400 pounds of pressure so no chance of me breaking it. There were beautiful peacocks roaming the grounds by the restaurant/gift shop.
I also saw an iguana but couldn’t get a picture. After a bathroom visit, I was back on the bus and decided to sit in one of the reserved rows (there were 4) upfront to get away from the seatmate.
Hato Caves
Now on to the Hato caves. It was a very steep big 45 steps (that really should have been 45 more smaller steps) up to the cave entrance.
The caves were very humid and it got worse the deeper we went in. We were only allowed to take pictures in the cavern with an opening to the sky.
The cavern before this had a lot of fruit bats and saw some flying around. This one had birds.
I left a few minutes ahead of my group skipping the last cavern to go to bathroom and take my time going down. C and A still made it to the bus before me!
Curacao Afternoon
After everyone was on the bus it headed back to the ship getting there about 10 minutes after end time of the tour. All in all, it was just an okay experience and I would go to Mambo Beach next time here.
We went straight up to the buffet. It was busy because everyone was coming back at the same time and getting food. I just got two sandwiches (ham salad and tuna salad) with potato salad.
My dessert was a strawberry napoleon that was very good.
Back in my cabin I might have found a piece of banana bread in the lounge.
Then it was nap time and reading until time to get ready for dinner.
Curacao Evening
Tonight we have reservations for La Cucina — the only specialty restaurant of the trip. I have the dining package and they are going a la carte. We headed there at 5:30 and got to the check in desk right about our reservation time of 5:45 pm. Lots of people checking in when it first opened.
The bread was delicious and crusty. C and I enjoyed the vinegar and oil with cheese while A had butter for his.
I shared my calamari with C which was my first starter.
We both had the pear salad.
My entree was the filet mignon.
It said it came with blue cheese ravioli and Iwas expecting more than 2 pieces. The steak wasn’t as pink as I’d like but better than being too rare (I ordered medium).
For dessert I had the chocolate tartlet.
What was different since I had this last time was the raspberry layer under the chocolate. I didn’t enjoy that!
I went back to the cabin until it was time to go to the 9 pm show. We got seats again the third row. The show was three vocalists calling themselves “This one’s for you”. I enjoyed it as it was all Elton John. They were very good singers although Tom was the best.
I got a ginger ale at the atrium bar after and went to my cabin to finish the book “The Quiet Girl”. It was very good!
