The Norwegian Epic visits Grenada today and it’s my first time to the island. We don’t arrive until 1 pm so it will be like a morning at sea.
Grenada Morning
I was up shortly after 6 and visited the studio lounge for cappuccinos while journaling. Later, on the way to Taste for breakfast, I stopped at guest services to try to add a couple of gift cards to my account.
Here’s where I was severely disappointed. I learned if not used within one year of purchase, they have a $3 service charge per month and the balance was gone since these were bought before the pandemic. Such predatory practice! I won’t ever buy these from NCL.
For breakfast, I decided on the vegetarian omelet. It was surprising that it didn’t have cheese in it.
Still good though! I subbed country potatoes for the hash rounds. Additionally, I had a toasted English muffin with coffee and a mimosa to wash it all down.
Then on the way out, I stopped by the next cruise desk and bought two $250 deposits and will get two more free. I just may book the two cruises C has scheduled with her and A for 2024 and 2025.
After getting ready for the day I read and watched the activities in the atrium (napkin folding, cha cha class, and finally the presentation on Prima and Viva. Looks like a very nice ship!
Afterwards, I put my phone on the charger and went to lunch at Osheehan’s so no pics of lunch.
Grenada Afternoon
The soup of the day was corn chowder. It was very good with nice pieces of bacon on top. I also ordered the chicken salad sandwich and was disappointed in it. There wasn’t much chicken salad and the bread was unnecessarily grilled making it greasy. The fries were good!
I got ready to leave the ship at 1 pm but we ended up docking a bit late. Found C and A in the garden cafe while they ate and we watched the ship get tied up.
I took the elevator down and they took the stairs with a stop at their cabin. That ended up meaning they got off before me because I got put in a huge line wrapping around 6 and going down escalators on 5 and wrapping some more. By the time they got to a point they were allowed off the aft gangway.
Grenada Excursion
Today’s excursion is Seven Sisters Waterfall Trek.
C found me once I got to the meeting place and we were off in the first minivan (holding 11 passengers plus a driver). Our driver’s nickname was Cheetah Man. It was a good 30-minute or more drive to our first stop at the national park office where we had access to a restroom.
The road had been extremely windy and one poor lady behind us was quite nauseous. She ended up going back to the ship as the driver got her on a bus/van going down. We drove a couple of more miles to the stop for seven sisters waterfall. First we learned about what plants the spices came from.
This one is the chocolate origin (I think). He grated a dried nut and it smelled just like hot cocoa. Then it was time to hike.
The hike was even more difficult than I imagined and my legs were shaking.
I made it all the way except for the last 100 feet. I saw the river and heard the waterfall; just didn’t see it. Just pooped out and decided to turn around. I took my time going back and it was very hard. Sweat was dripping everywhere! Finally I got back to the starting point and bought two Ting soda and downed them.
Five minutes later C and A were back. What! I guess I was slower than I thought. She did share this photo with me though.
Bottom line they enjoyed it and I hated it. My problem was not paying attention to the description AND activity level (3).
I did enjoy seeing the scenery, learning about the spices and being with my family but that’s it. I would like to visit Grenada again and see a different side of the island.
Curacao Evening
Once back at the port we had to wind through a shopping mall (air conditioned at least) before getting to the gate to the pier. I got onboard and went directly to the shower. Then went up to the Garden cafe for a quick dinner before going back to the cabin for the night.
Of course I had dessert!
Fortunately, C was able to reschedule our time for the Ice Bar to tomorrow evening. I was done in so lights were out at 8 pm after reading a bit.
