Today the Norwegian Epic is in St. Lucia and it’s my first time here. I’m taking an island tour while C and A are going zip-lining.
St. Lucia Morning
I was up at 5:30 am and got coffee in the studio lounge while journaling and reading the news on my phone.
At 7 am I went to Taste for breakfast and was seated at a window table again. The menu had two different daily specials than I’d seen before.
However, I wasn’t interested in either. Instead, I ordered a mimosa and…
Eggs benedict.
They were perfect except for too light on the Hollandaise sauce. I also enjoyed my first bran muffin but found it light on the bran.
C and A’s excursion was at 8:30 so I didn’t see them before they left the ship this morning. I got my purse packed with water and other necessities for today and left shortly after 9 am to be on the pier at 9:15.
St. Lucia Tour
Today I’m taking the Island Splendor tour which was just $12.10 after my $50 shorex credit and with latitude discount.
We left right on time at 9:30 grouped by van size. My group had about 10 people so we weren’t too crowded. Right away I feel this island is economically better off than Grenada although I don’t know that for a fact. It feels cleaner and less crowded.
Our driver is Trent. A second ship, Mein Schiff 2, is also in port. It’s a Tui line vessel.
We pass this striking sculpture.
I learn from Google it’s called All-in and was dedicated on the 40th anniversary of independence from the UK in 2019.
Very moving. Then I see this sculpture at the main bank.
I googled it later and found it is named Aftermath.
The island roads to where we are going are winding but not as bad as yesterday. We made one stop for a scenic view of the harbor and our ship.
Pink Plantation House
Our first stop is a garden where we have a wonderful gentleman who owns it telling us about the various plants and fruits.
While he’s doing that we are served our choice of lemonade or sour orange drink. I picked the latter and it was very refreshing. Then we were served this bread which seems like a beignet without the powdered sugar.
The last treat was a fish cake ball that was yummy! We learned about the trees and I admired the various flowers (anthurium, hibiscus, etc.).
This tree is apparently hollow; you can hear it when tapping it.
He also had pineapples growing. The gardens had a gallery, restaurant and beautiful outdoor lounge.
I bought a print for our home from the gallery.
Caribelle Batik
Then we loaded back up and headed to a batik printing demonstration.
It was interesting but they didn’t sell batik there which was a bit strange.
The location also had beautiful views!
Anse La Raye
We then headed to a fishing village but first stopped at an overlook of Marigot bay.
So pretty! There were vendors here too and one was selling these handmade baskets.
When we arrived at Anse La Raye I was disappointed and expected more here for some reason. Maybe from visiting European fishing villages?
I did see one fisherman cleaning his catch of red snapper. Lots of vendor booths and here I tasted banana ketchup (plain) and bought some banana honey BBQ sauce to use on our new grill for fish and chicken.
Then we went back to the ship arriving about 30 minutes late due to heavy traffic.
Post Tour Afternoon
Once onboard I headed straight to Taste which was supposed to be open until 1:30 but it had closed. So instead I went to O’Sheehans and started with a mudslide.
Then had cauliflower soup (soup of the day). Lastly I had the blue burger with fries.
On the way back to my cabin I noticed the ship had St. Patty’s day décor up. After a nap I was ready for the evening.
St. Lucia Evening
I met C at 5:25 and we headed to Taste.
I had a mojito to drink and started with coconut crusted shrimp.
My second starter was cream of asparagus soup.
I had a hard time picking entrée but finally decided on beef chimichurri.
It was good but too much rice.
For dessert C had this very good looking snicker’s pound cake.
I had the banana soufflé.
It was better than it looks. We had 7:30 pm reservations at the ice bar and met A there. We were given coats and gloves to wear.
Once everyone arrived we were escorted inside. We had two drink tickets but I can’t imagine wanting more than 2; they weren’t very good.
It was fun seeing all the ice furniture.
Here we are “enjoying” our drinks at the bar.
The drink is served inside an ice cup. Our bartender took wonderful photos of us (I’m sparing you from having to see them all).
It was a very fun one time experience! Then I went back to the cabin too. Read and lights out at 10 pm after a wonderful day.
