Last week I had physical therapy session Monday morning and then again on Friday morning. The aftermath of each couldn’t be more different.
Monday Physical Therapy Session
I felt fine during the exercises on Monday but Julie, my therapist, added more to help me strengthen my flexors and core. Starting the next day, I was in pain. The second day was so bad, I had to keep dosing with ibuprofen to get through the day at work.
Thursday was more like Monday. The pain wasn’t as acute but by the afternoon, the sciatic nerve was complaining down into my knee. I can’t really do my job standing up when in the office so it was trying.
A Different Tack
Julie always ask me how the problem areas feel following the previous session. I let her know how much pain I was in after Monday’s session — not immediately after but in the days following.
She had me do all exercises from my back and cut back on the number. Instead I spent 10 minutes getting electrotherapy. It just made my skin tingle. When the tingling couldn’t be felt anymore, she increased the level.
It’s now three days later and the acute pain hasn’t returned and I’m starting to hope the problem is going to go away. I’m not sure what the machine was doing exactly but I am ready to call it a magic box.
I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as I’m getting better. Now I need to figure out how I’m going to keep this from happening again. A plan is in the works!
