Yesterday as I waited for my flight back from San Jose I read a Facebook post that swiftly changed the day. One of my best friends from high school had passed away Saturday.
Angie had been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2012 and although she won battles since then, the war took its toll and she was ready to rest.
You can see Angie as she was when I knew her best in the photo above. That’s one of our teachers and her. We bonded as two Air Force “brats” and became part of a foursome of friends making the best of high school.
She became a cheerleader and I’m sure my popularity went up a bit just being in her circle. 🙂
After high school I went off to college and Angie became a mom. We lost touch and I was so happy to see her at our 20 year reunion. We talked, hugged and shared stories about our boys. She also had two sons and even came up to my hotel room to see my two sleeping.
We declared we wouldn’t lose touch this time… and promptly did.
Facebook changed that. We reconnected but by then Angie was already in her fight. Angie documented her thoughts, hopes, dreams and fears in a blog, I Superwoman.
My heart goes out to Angie’s “boys”, her beloved granddaughter, siblings and extended family. She was loved by people you never knew and will always be remembered! Rest, my sweet friend and say hi to Kenny for me.

Haralee, I only lost one friend before my 50’s but loss is becoming more frequent now. It certainly makes you appreciate the people that are here more.

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend Angie. I’m sure she loved you as much as it sounds like you loved her. Sending hugs.

Thanks, Sharon. Friends are very important!
