The Two Savvy Sisters attended the inaugural SheCon conference in Miami Beach, Florida last weekend. It was our first conference since starting the blog and we were excited to learn, network and have a good time!
Venue
The conference was originally scheduled to be held at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale so both of us had airline tickets for that airport. Due to a scheduling snafu, the event was moved which meant not only did we have a longer drive, but were now at a hotel that charged $30 a night for parking as opposed to free parking.
Unfortunately, I had arranged for the rental car through Priceline which is not refundable so we proceeded with the rental car and was “upgraded”. The upgrade left us with a two-door with an extremely small trunk. Only one of our suitcases could fit leaving us not thinking it was much of an upgrade. I also couldn’t figure out how to start the car for a few minutes as it had a fob instead of a traditional key. After lots of laughs from both of us, we got going!
Hotel
The conference hotel was The Shelbourne which is in the process of being renovated. Most attendees were in non-renovated rooms including us. When we arrived, my name wasn’t listed and we were not noted as part of the Shecon group even though both were clearly stated on my reservation confirmation. Somehow, Melrose’s information became the primary. That was fine once we realized it.
Our room had only three hangers in the closet and the television reception was just static. A request to the front desk ended up with both of these being handled promptly. Although the room wasn’t the best, the service was great throughout our stay.
Event
We joined the welcome cocktail gathering a little late and got to meet some of the fellow attendees including Jen, Leticia and Janis. Our travels left us hungry so we peeled away from the group to grab a bite to eat by the pool.
Afterwards the cupcake coach had arrived with cocktail-flavored cupcakes sponsored by Clever Girls Collective. Melrose had Green Appletini and I had a Pina Colada cupcake. We both enjoyed them as the finishing touch to our day and meal.
After a full day, we headed back to the room anticipating the official kickoff the next morning.
