Last summer I booked Symphony of the Seas for December 10th thinking it would be a nice getaway after getting settled in our new home.
Well, it’s happening but not the way I envisioned. Our forever home was supposed to be done between August and October. Thanks to the pandemic and shortages (labor and materials) we are closing two months late; it’s literally the day before our cruise!
After a very hectic day we will be glad to be getting a relaxing vacation and then officially move in afterwards. There are many reasons we’re happy to be taking this trip even though the timing isn’t idea.
1. First Cruise Together Post-Pandemic. Steve and I last cruised together for my 60th birthday — nearly 3 years ago. I’ve taken several after that but with sisters, brother and even solo. Our older dog was mainly why and the fact that I am not the homebody he is.
2. Driving from Home. First item we’ve driven from our Florida home to the port. Normally we’d prefer sailing from Port Canaveral which is a short 45 minute drive but the best deal was Symphony out of the Miami for the timeframe at the time I booked.
3. Mexico. We both love Mexico — the people, the culture and the beaches. We’re hitting both Costa Maya and Cozumel.
4. Cococay. Steve hasn’t made it here yet and want to share with him how this is the best private island of any cruise line.
Ports
I’ve already disclosed three of our ports. The other one is Roatan where we’re doing a sea day in port enjoying the uncrowded pools. I’ve been there a couple of times recently and he wasn’t interested in any of the excursions.
Our plans for Costa Maya and Cozumel are all inclusive beach clubs. In the former we’re going to a new to us place, Jamie’s at the Reef. I made reservations with a deposit and will pay the remainder there.
In Cozumel we’re returning to an old favorite, Nachi Cocum.
I won’t come here again in a group because of the seating thing but they can’t make two of us share a palapa with others.
On Coco Cay I booked the Beach club with the Black Friday pricing. It’s a surprise for Steve and I can’t wait to see what we both think.
Did you live in Wenatchee WA for a while as a teenager?
Yes for one year.
