During the night I awoke for an hour or two thinking about all the tasks we have to do once back home. Thank goodness today’s a sea day for the Symphony of the Seas.
Sea Day Morning
Eventually I went back to sleep and woke again at 6:40. Very late for me! I met Steve at Cafe Promenade and he’d been there for two hours.
I enjoyed coffee there until we left for breakfast at the Solarium Bistro. Steve did run up to windjammer when they opened and brought us different danishes than in the cafe promenade.
Now this is a proper chocolate croissant! The Bistro was very busy but less crazy than the windjammer.
Steve thought it had the best pancakes of the three places we’ve had them. After breakfast we headed back to the room. I ended up reading through the time for the entertainment “behind the scenes” event.
Late morning the captain shared that they’d come across a small vessel (it was a sailboat) with people waving to catch their attention and they needed to investigate. We saw the ship’s boat go out there and eventually it came back with two people.
Then we learned there were 22 people onboard, they’d been out to sea for 5 days and their engine was out, no food or water.
He didn’t say where they were from but we were 30 miles from Cuba so that’s my bet. The coast guard asked the captain to take them aboard which he did. They were finished with that operation about when we went to lunch in the main dining room.
Sea Day Afternoon
The line for 2 people had about 20 people or so in it when we joined the line but we were seated in about 10 minutes.
I had the lentil soup to start.
It was good but lacking in number of lentils. Steve ordered the chicken sandwich and enjoyed it. I had cheeseburger which was good.
We both had the apple blossom for dessert.
I sure miss it on the dinner anytime menu.
Then the ship headed to Key west to meet up with the coast guard.
At first we just saw a small boat and thought there was no way they’d get 22 people in it but right behind it was the bigger ship!
Eventually it was time to get ready for dinner.
Sea Day Evening
We took some more photos by the christmas tree after dressing up.
We ordered a drink at the schooner bar before heading to the dining room.
It was lobster night so I had the onion tart to start.
This was followed by shrimp cocktail. Steve had double shrimp cocktail. Then we both had lobster.
Steve also had the strip steak (thinnest steak ever) so he made surf and turf. My dessert was chocolate molten cake and Steve had the strawberry shortcake.
He was very dissapointed as it only had a couple of strawberry slices.
Tonight’s show isn’t until 8:15 so we went back to the cabin and Steve went to the windjammer for cookies.
I was surprised to see they had Christmas cookies!
The theater filled up for the show tonight called “flight”. It was very entertaining and since it was the cast of Hairspray they were all excellent singers.
The finale with the airplane is very fun.
We went to the pub afterwards and had a drink. I had a couple of slices of pizza with my drink. Then we went to Schooner bar for our last drink of the day. The piano singer there was very good!
Afterwards we went back to the cabin and Steve got pizza before we retired around 11 pm. It was a fun and interesting day at sea!
Here’s today’s cruise compass.
