I woke up at 6:30 and Steve was already gone. It’s our fifth sea day on this voyage of the Vikings and his birthday!
Sea Day Morning
When I got ready he sent me a text asking for cough drops. I also got the birthday card I packed for him out.
The front elevators went out yesterday and are still broken so there’s a bit of backtracking to get to the crow’s nest. I ordered the travel mug to use. I feel bad using a paper cup every day.
Here’s our position at 8 am this sea day.
We went to the MDR shortly after it opened for breakfast and were seated at a table at the aft. I ordered one of today’s specials – the Spanish torta. But first I ordered a mimosa.
Here are the berries I ordered. You can see the specials menu behind the dish.
I think they’re running short of berries! My torta with some bacon and hash browns.
When we got back to the cabin there were birthday cards from our travel agent and the agency hosts were waiting for Steve.
He rested in the room as he caught a cold while I attended two morning presentations. First, the cruise and travel director presented a talk on Nordic pioneers.
Then Tim and Daphne (destination lecturers) did a presentation on Prince Christian Sound.
This is a good depiction of our path yesterday.
I learned a lot about John Cabot. Who knew he was an Italian that changed his name!
Both presentations were interesting and I enjoyed them.
Sea Day Afternoon
I met Steve in the room and we went to lunch at noon in the MDR.
We both started with salad.
I had the tuna melt made with white bread.
Steve had fish and chips.
We both enjoyed our entrees. I had ordered the watermelon sorbet and what came was mango.
Steve had vanilla custard and offered to trade. I took him up on it!
At 1 pm I went to the talk, “Sink the Bismarck” by Mike West.
It was very entertaining and interesting. I stayed in the room for Tim/Daphne’s talk on Isafjordur (our port tomorrow).
It was not what I was expecting. There was too much time spent on information that wouldn’t help anyone touring tomorrow with one exception. Most of us on tours will go through the unique 5 plus mile one way tunnel.
Sea Day Evening
After a rest I Steve and I got ready for our evening. We had drinks in the Pinnacle Bar.
Shortly before 6 we checked in at the Pinnacle Grill and were seated in a corner booth. Click the menu image below for the full menu.
I ordered red wine for dinner. Our first starters were crab cakes for me.
I was not a fan of the interpretation. Too much coating versus crab with these small round “cakes”. Steve had shrimp cocktail.
The waiter was kind enough to take a nice picture of us.
Then came the soup. First we had just mushrooms for me and lobster chuncks for Steve presented in our bowls.
Not a lot of lobster! Then the soup was poured from a kettle.
Here is Steve’s finished lobster bisque.
Very good! We both had boneless ribeye steaks.
Yes it was as good as it looks! My sides were Beets and I mashed potatoes.
Steve had a baked potato. We ate until we gave up to save a little room for dessert. First we were served some chocolates.
They look lonely on that big serving tray. Then Steve got his baked Alaska.
I had chocolate soufflé.
Wonderful! When we got back to the cabin Steve had a birthday cup cake waiting for him.
The card was from the captain and crew.
Along with the program for tomorrow we had a notice to turn clocks forward another hour again.
Here is today’s daily program. Click the image for the full PDF.
Here is what they offered in the main dining room tonight.
