Last week was the third time I’ve traveled while on keto and also the most challenging. Lunch was provided two of the days with no selections and then the selected group dinner was at an Italian restaurant. I have ideas on how to battle this problem on future trips.
Progress
No weight loss this week according to the scale but I did track ketones every morning. I test right after I wake as this will most likely be the lowest reading all day and lets me know how the previous day’s food impacted ketosis.
The readings ranged from 0.3 to 1.4. Twice my ketones were under 0.5 which means I was out of ketosis. I think it was due to not enough fat those days and that’s the hardest thing to get enough of while traveling. Check out one of my solutions later in the post.
New Products
Last week I ordered a product to help with satiety and getting enough fats without carbs on the road. What is it? It’s F Bomb nut butters from Love You Foods. I ordered the sampler of 8 packs.
They’re pricey and I’ve just had one so far but it was fantastic! I’ll be packing a couple of these when I travel to the East coast tomorrow.
This month’s KetoKrate arrived and I have an unboxing video on youtube.

Food and Recipes
There aren’t any recipe links this week as I didn’t cook anything more complicated than a vegetable, meat and eggs. A lot of what you’ll see below are restaurant meals.
Breakfast
This was the meal that is easiest to eat the keto way. I started off the week with an excellent brunch of a breakfast sandwich from The Counter at the San Diego airport.
It’s their breakfast sandwich without the bun and added avocado. The next morning I ate leftover BBQ from Pappy’s Smokehouse dinner the night before. I had ordered the pulled pork and burnt ends platter with two sides.
I skipped the leftover vinegar slaw and ate the beans and meat with a coconut oil packet I had packed. Delicious! In Chicago, I had the breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant.
It was the best Keto meals I had in that city. I took walnuts from the oatmeal toppings. Once home I had a simpler breakfast with bacon, the flax crackers in the August KetoKrate and cheese.
Lunch
This was generally the toughest meal because lunch two days were ordered by others. We had a sandwich buffet in St. Louis so I had meat and cheese with some mayonaise on it. Then we had Lou Malnati’s pizza in Chicago with salad. I ate the toppings from a couple of pieces along with salad.
At the Midway airport I had a french dip with no bun along with a side salad.
The best lunch of the week was the bratwurst I had at the company picnic Saturday.
It was fantastic!
Dinners
The best dinner this past week was the barbeque (shown above). Tuesday’s dinner was at the St. Louis Airport where I had a cobb salad that was pretty good.
Wednesday night was at a well known Chicago eatery, Carmine’s. It has tons of atmosphere but boy was it pricey!
I forgot to get a picture of my meal but had taken a picture of the steak prices to send to my husband. I wanted a ribeye but cant’ bring myself to order it at that price. I ended up ordering veal piccata with spinach.
Back home I had just a couple of deviled eggs and cheese for dinner on Thursday. Friday’s dinner was a McDonald’s quarter pounder burger (no cheese) cut up in a side salad.
Saturday was steak and broccoli cooked at home.
Looking Forward
This week I’m going to focus on getting enough fats while traveling and with one less night hoping it’ll be an easier trip. Keto on!
